Outcome Abilities
Auburn University School of Nursing's mission is to foster and exemplify excellence in teaching, service/outreach, and research. Master's level graduates are prepared to lead in advanced practice nursing roles in health related services to diverse population. Below, please find a collection of projects, research, and patient interactions completed during my MSN studies at Auburn University. This body of work displays how I mastered the seven Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP) outcome abilities.
Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)
EBP is more than research! It is the basis for sound clinical applications for providing health care. The Evidence-Based Practice course taught me how to integrate clinical expertise, patients' concerns and values with the best clinical evidence research to elicit a positive patient outcome.
Project Title: Managing Heart Failure (HF) in Homecare Patients (January 2012 – June 2012)
This project was implemented at a local home health agency in Montgomery, Al. The significance of the project was to identify the best evidence-based practice intervention for homecare patients with heart failure. It was found that the usage of an APN in homecare HF patients has the potential to improve patients’ knowledge of disease process, which, utlimately improves self-care skills and disease control, preventing frequent re-admissions.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Health promotion is an important component in health care. It empowers individuals to take control over, and to improve, their health. Teaching individuals’ self-efficacy behaviors assist in averting disease epidemics; assist in decreasing health care cost, etc. The projects below represents how I implemented health promotion and disease prevention within my community.

Theoretical Foundation; Changes Principles
Theory is vital to the field of nursing in that it provides a form of structure for nurses. Nursing theory sets standards and guidelines for our practice. Many nursing theories are still being referenced and used today. Nursing theories have been developed by Florence Nightingale, Jean Watson, Jacqueline Fawcett, etc. These milestones paved the path for the newer theory age of Nurse Empowerment. Theory allows nurses to be innovators, to develop their own thoughts and theories about the field.
